Lessons from Rod Chester

The monday lecture provided some useful tips regarding the art of factual storytelling and ways to grab the attention and interest of readers. Rod Chester seemed very technologically savvy with his smart phone and ipad and whether intending to or not, stressed the importance of keeping up with the new forms of social media and technology. However, good writing, in his opinion, is still the most important thing and is what employers are really looking for. Having taken creative writing classes at university and learnt about narrative writing both in primary and highschool, the main questions of Who, What, Where, When, Why and How are still the key to successfull storytelling. An article should start with the most critical details first and should read in a way that it could be cut off at anytime and still make sense. The two diagrams below illustrate this point.
